Hootle Xiangqi
Xiangqi (Chinese chess) for children: learn in a school of ten chapters, taught by Hootle the owl and friends, and beat a ladder of ten robot opponents. Free to try, with one purchase that unlocks it all; no ads, no subscription and no accounts.
Help
- Unlocking the full game. Chapters 1-2 and the first three robots are free. Tapping a locked chapter or robot, or Unlock all of Hootle Xiangqi in Settings, asks a grown-up a question first, then the store takes the payment. On a new phone, or after reinstalling, use Restore purchases in Settings.
- Pictures or Chinese characters. The pieces show clay pictures for a child still learning them, or the characters of a real set. Choose in Settings, under Pieces.
- The owl does not read the lessons aloud. Check that Spoken prompts is on in Settings, and that the device has a text-to-speech voice for the chosen language (Android: Settings → Accessibility → Text-to-speech; iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices).
- Changing the language. Settings, or the globe at the top of the screen. The App starts in the device's language.
- Progress disappeared. Lesson progress is kept only on the device, so it does not move to a new phone and is removed if the App is uninstalled.
